So my question is already in the header.
Is the template for Magento 1.8.1 suitable? Or is there a version of it? Or not? Can I use the same, or then what is not?

Given the noted date of the last update for this particular theme (Jul 2013), I do not believe it has yet been updated for Magento 1.8.x. However, I will check with the JA Development Team to be sure -- as well as to see if this theme is scheduled for update in the foreseeable future.

JM Asenti is now fully compatible with magento CE 1.8.1.0. It is available for download in here
