JA Magento Tutorials

Now that JA has jumped into the Magento theme/template realm, it would be awesome if some of the JA Developers and/or other skilled members could, perhaps, write up some USER FRIENDLY tutorials on modifying / customizing Magento themes and stores.

Although the Magento people try to provide some tutorials and screencasts on their site, I’m afraid they still seem to be under the impression that EVERY potential Magento user is as advanced as they are.

It’s obvious that the Magento file structure is different than that of Joomla -- so, some "lay person" style tutorials on how to modify / add / remove elements, blocks, graphics and features would be AWESOME !!!

Thoughts ??

Yes, Magento and Joomla are very different. You can learn more about Magento at its official site

That would be very good things for JA as well as JA users, certainly we will try to provide tutorials, especially templates/themes related tutorial for members. Howevers, the team has only involved into Magento during the last 2-3 months so we need more times to get in and out of Magento before starting any turorials.

For the time being, I have just run into a very good blog for any Magento lovers.

For an initial Magento "How To" Tutorial . . . I would really like to see how a top navigation menu is created in Magento . . . .
or, at least, modifying/customizing one.

(Where is Bill "instantinlaw" and his awesome video tutorials when you need him?)

But Tom, you can make the video when you have researched it ?

Oh, I’ve watched the screencasts on the Magento site and read the Designer’s handbook -- STILL Greek to me.

While that will be of enormous benefit to Magneto users, Tom, if Ja are to develop these ( is that your request?) where are they going to get the staff resourses from, given that the main core paying group of JA the non magneto group is already feeling a bit let down at the lack of development for their club cause Magneto is now the focus of JA for the small few not the majority?

Now before you say get over it and draw into a pissing contest, it IS a valid point that JA needs to respond to and address

we have heard of no new staff to cope with the additional demands Magneto places on JA developers, my opinion is Magneto should not be an extra pay to use for dev mambers we have paid enough as it is, if all dev members got involved it may take off faster and member tutorials would appear

My thought, you probably won’t agree etc
Have a great day

It is called Magento, not Magneto, and I think JA has not to disclose about if they hire new staff or not, whatever they do.

The only pissing match I would get into is over the assumption that I would get into a pissing match over what you said. I AGREE with you and, with the amount of money that JA brings in, I think Hung is well in a position to bring in a couple of Magento ONLY developers to devote to this new venture and offer the additional features to the membership.

Actually, I agree WHOLEHEARTEDLY.

I thank you for correcting my spelling perhaps my dyslexia is showing, and while JA may not HAVE to disclose their staffing level as a long term member and not a recently joined one, JA has always been keen to tell us of any staffing levels and chances to show they are committed to expansion

having not read your earlier post Tom, I had based my view you would not agree on recent posts that seemed out of character and seemed to be negative based

My apologies if I have categorized you
All’s good
