Migration with extensions

Hi,
If we purchase Data Migration Pro -- I understand we can migrate all data from m1 to m2 like, customer, order, products etc.
On our existing website we have around 25 extensions -- how does migration work for these? Do we have reinstall them again?
what are the steps? first we have migrate data and work on theme and extension?

Thanks!!

Hi Sam,
Thanks for your interest in our migration tool.
The code of Magento 1 extensions, themes, or customizations will not work in Magento 2. So for your extensions (or theme), you need to check if there is a Magento 2 version or alternative available.
Meanwhile, I’d like to share the best workflow for M2 migration for your reference:

  • Install a fresh and latest Magento instance (the current version is Magento 2.1.5)
  • Install our latest UB Data Migration Pro
  • Start data migration as per our guide in the Readme.txt file (included in the download package)
  • After you complete the data migration, you move on with your third-party themes and extensions integration

Hope that helps.

Hello An
I read your recommended workflow with interest. We are doing an M1 to M2 migration and have followed your steps so far.
We are now building the site (adding theme, extensions, customisations, etc.). At some point in the future we have to re-import the latest client data (approx. 40,000 products, 70,000 customers, 22,000 sales). Our plan is to reset everything and perform the data migration again.
We’ve tested as much as possible and are hoping this will work for real when the time comes. Do you have any specific advice for our situation?

Hi Graeme,
If you follow the steps below:

  • You already complete the first data migration using our migration tool successfully and verify that such migrated data is fully ready for use.
  • Then you start with theme, extensions and customizations

Then, you simply proceed delta migration to update the latest incremental data changes since the last time you migrate data, rather than remigrating from the ground up.
You can learn more about the delta feature via this tutorial video: https://youtu.be/R4UBLe2kf-I (at 9:19 minute)
Actually, starting with theme, extensions development while the data migration is not completed might lead to unexpected issues.
Hope that helps.

An Nguyen
