I want to know if someone knows of real Magento host that are not resellers but have their own equipment in own server centers and optimized those for Magento? The reason why I am asking, I looked over some of the hosts on Magentocommerce.com that are listed as Magento hosts but the ones I looked at seem to be only reseller hosts with optimized serves and this is too risky at this point of time. I simply will not spend money into, and host a professional site with a company, where I do not know if in half a year the company will be gone during this recessional time, especially when the company is located in the USA and today the company still can be active and promoting their stuff where they may already know they will close soon, but have not other way than to continue. I am currently using VPS and only need some minor changes on, but when I would know about a true Magento host with reasonable pricing I may switch to this one indeed. A host with own equipment mostly has secured his clients sites future and would also be able to sell his equipment to a larger company who takes over the service agreements with the existing customers and I am not sure if this would be possible when some reseller goes bancrupt, mostly the host who sold the reseller plans will have some issues in taking over those service agreements especially when the servers were modified and adjusted to Magento, but may only make a reinstall of their regular software as there is obviously no way to be able to continue on servers some other people configured and most clients of the reseller would be left devastated unless 2 parties can discuss and agree to certain things like when a host sells equipment and business including clients and service agreements to another one.

Thanks!

I use http://www.siteground.com and have been VERY satisfied with them. They have application specific plans -- INCLUDING Magento -- where they will install the application for you for free. (If you want the sample data installed as well, just ask upon sign-up).

Here’s the link for the Magento Hosting Plan --> http://www.siteground.com/magento-hosting.htm

I find their knowledgebase and Help Desk service to be top notch. In fact, I submitted a Help Ticket to them just last night, and the issue was resolved within a span of two hours . . . not 24 hrs, TWO. Very reliable and quality service in my book.

Thanks for the reply but I look for some Magento Host, some company that like it is also for other specific system, have their servers optimized for Magento. The installation services some hosts bring I won’t use, as I need own templates and sql dumps installed and a host wise installation would have no effort.

Maybe I should clarify that I do not look for one of the major hosts where I get the regular server configs, but Magento specialized hosts that optimize their systems on Magento also in regards to server performance issues that come with Magento sometimes and have their own servers they do this with.

Perhaps these might be helpful to you —> http://www.magentocommerce.com/partners/find?type=4

Those were the ones I mentioned in my initial post and some make me very sceptic. A few are sole resellers, a promising one only has a french site and most offer quite "strange" VPS packages. I do not know if this is due to the recessions or the location they are at, but mostly I get for app. 10 to 20 bucks a VPS with 10GB and 2GB Memory where those offer 256mb RAM with quite low storage for higher prices then the regular non-Magento specialized hosts. And the one I thought might be a good match offering optimized performance for Magento has a max of 7,5GB on their VPS for a lot more money it is really worth.

Seems a lot of ride the train these days and can offer such packages for high money…

BTW, to your problems with the Sample Data and SQL Errors, I do not know but do you have the InnoDB Storage Engine with your MySQL, those errors should be related to this one missing in some DBs and the Magento Check seems not to check this or also can’t check this as it is a MySQL DB issue and maybe out of the scope of such tool to test if this engine is available in your DB. Refer to the Magento Forum, quite some interesting threads there why those errors come up.

I had my site on a VPS and it was too slow and I was going to ditch it. Just installed the $20 plan at Simple Helix and it’s all good and fast -- I think I can use this shop now. Around 1-2 second load time.

This so far is the only thing that is annoying me about Magento. It took me years to finally find a host that was not utter garbage. Now, if I want to use Magento I will have to switch hosting companies or upgrade to VPS. Gah -- -- nothing is ever easy.

I know I was really annoyed that my VPS would not work and was so slow in the back end I might as well as forgot it. 10 seconds to load one page. A few days ago I signed up to http://www.simplehelix.com/ and it is great. Really fast -- for $20 a month a bargain. The only downside is that you can only have one ip per account, and they just keep trying to sell you there "reseller package" I am going to see how it goes but for $20 it is a bargain. You can also have 9 other domains on the package so I am going to test Joomla next. If you do get it ask for c-panel and upload quickinstall via the control panel as I encountered many problems with FTP. Hope you get it all sorted ๐Ÿ™‚

I will put them on my list to look over.

Today my host shut down one of my sites claiming to much usage for shared account. They did not give me any information regarding what exactly is causing a load for me to fix. I found this quite frustrating to say the least. When I asked them to be specfic it took them five hours to respond to me and they completly ignored my question lol. They sure are quick to give a link to those dedicated servers though HaH.

So siteground and simplehelix anyone else have any hosting suggestions?

I wouldn’t go with a hosting provider that is Magento specific as the high quality hosting providers wouldn’t push themselves into a niche that only allows them to host for one platform. I’ve used VPS for several of my Magento stores and they work fine. Obviouly though you have to have a provider that provides high performance VPS with support. My favorite provider is WiredTree.com

Look now they are trying relevant spam techniques lol. Let me actually answer a question on my new accounts and then use anchor text linked spam signatures. /clap
