I am interested in using JM zite on a site but first, does anyone know if it would be compatible to add an image slider above the product block? I would not usually ask but considering this is a responsive theme i am assuming it is not as simple as usual?

Like other responsive template, if you wanna add an image slider and hope it be compatible and works well, you should make this slider responsive too

thought as much. I guess my next question then is are there any magento extensions that are compatible or would i have to build my own content block?

Responsive design is new trend and it means that your site will adapt and fit screens of various devices (mobiles and tablets). Basically, it relates to CSS and Javascript changes, you should make your own changes to have your extension responsive.
