I see the magento templates are updated…what is the prodcedure for updating magento core from 1.6.2 to 1.7 and the updated templates?

I have opened a ticket last week asking for recommended procedure for updating to Magento 1.7.2 and the new template versions but have received no responses…any one got suggestions and/or sources for this procedure?
