I have checked but not find any clue yet. I tried to disable all our extensions and the problem still remains, thus it might relate to magento core or a third-party extension you installed.

I installed the quickstart and no third-party extensions.

The strange thing at the end of the installation was that I got in a loop to install sample data.
It took three times before it said installation was done and there was the choice to go to home or admin section.

Reinstall the quick start package again?

I have been thinking back.

The only adjustment I made was removing the german and french site.
Could it be that?

that could be the reason if one of those two stores is default store. It works fine now, doesn’t it?

Feel free to remove language at your choice, except for default stores/languages. I think it would work fine.
