customer migration

If we migrate a magento 1.9 to a fresh magento 2 install and then migrate a different magento 1.9 store to the magento 2 from earlier, how will customer conflicts be handled? Are we able to have customers with the same email address be combined and orders from both stores will show in the customer account?

Hi there,

Are we able to have customers with the same email address be combined and orders from both stores will show in the customer account?

It’s pity this is not possible. After migration, these will be treated as two separated customers in two separated websites.
Regards,
Mall.

If a customer is already in Magento 2 and you import from another magento 1, how are the duplicate accounts handled? Two account’s couldn’t be for one email, so some type of merge would have to happen.

Hi there,

If a customer is already in Magento 2 and you import from another magento 1, how are the duplicate accounts handled? Two account’s couldn’t be for one email, so some type of merge would have to happen.

Our migration tool has the feature “Merge Default Websites”
Supposed that you have two accounts using the same email, one account in your M2 and another in M1. If both accounts belong to default website (which means M1 account belongs to default M1 website; M2 account belongs to default M2 website), then if you select option ‘Merge Default Websites’ when migrating using our tool, both accounts will be merged into one. The credentials of M1 account will override those of M2.
Under the same assumption, if you do not select option ‘Merge Default Websites’, then both accounts will be maintained and treated as two different account for multiple websites.
Normally, you tend to set one website active at a time, that means only one account will be active.
Regards,
Mall.
