Error when changing menu item position

Whenever I drag a menu item to a new position I get the error “function Error() { [native code] }” after a very long halt. Upon reload the change is made.

Using magento blank child theme, only less/styling modifications. Using the latest version (1.06). Magento 2.1

Hi there,

Whenever I drag a menu item to a new position I get the error “function Error() { [native code] }” after a very long halt. Upon reload the change is made.

That is strange, let’s try re-deploy static content of your site. And tell me know how it goes.
Regards,
Mall.

Hi there,

redeployed static content, cleared all caches, logged in/out and the same issue persists.

So, kindly provide me your information as followings:

  • Admin credentials
  • SSH credentials and web root path of your Magento instance.

I will check further and help you out.

Hi there,
The feature has always worked sucessfully on a refresh, it just halts unecessarily..
6 minutes to move a single menu item is just not acceptable or even close to being reasonable. I cant arrange all my categories with this sort of overhead.
Why is this so slow? It should be a more or less instant task.

Hi there,

I see that you have a big volume of menu items, hence when changing the order of one menu item, the system need to update to sort order for the rest menu items. We wonder if you’re adding the current menu trees during development phase only? And the actual production site has less volume of menu items?
Meanwhile, please consider to upgrade your server capacity for better performance.

Mall.

Hi Again.
I’ve been in contact with our hosting and the resources availible seem adequate. They have played with a few settings and I have removed the last level of menu items.
We have 4gb of ram and 2 X 2.4ghz xeons on an SSD powered cloud server. All other operations are done in a timely manner, bringing me away from the conclusion that our server is the issue.
Its just this one process that is slow and unreliable, everything else on the server and your extension works within a reasonable time. I feel you need to reduce the resource requirement of this action, rather than shift the blame to our hosting.

Additionally I can confirm the host is dedicated not shared.
Very frustrated, you cant possibly tell me this is normal/intended functionality.
I cant wait 6 minutes everytime we need to move a single nav link,  one position! Its ridiculous…
You should at least add a sort order field to individual menu items (numerical). I dont understand why such a simple operation must be SO heavy on the server.

Hi there,
Thanks, whilst the server is running this operation everything gets locked out.
It wont load any other pages until the response is over, it must be consuming all resources. Our memory limit is maxed out (4gb) and maxexecution & input time is very high at 1000 seconds.
Trying to provide as much info as possible to help you along.

Hi there,
It seems you have updated your server’s performance. I have just rechecked re-positioning menu items in your back-end, and see it’s working fine now. I don’t see the issue with slow response as per my first check yesterday: http://i.prntscr.com/WuPfby46QRWW0-sG-964yw.png
Kindly have a look again and let me if you need further assistance.
Regards,
Mall.
