UB Rich Snippets extension uses JSON-LD to automatically add valid structured data information (using schema.org vocabulary) about your Magento 2 site in the background. This way, the extension entirely separates the markup data from the HTML code, so you do not need to tweak the HTML elements directly to integrate the snippets.
The extension will primarily focus on supporting the following types of rich snippets:
- Product Snippets
- Category Snippets
- Facebook OpenGraph
- Twitter card (work-in-progress)
- Sitelinks search box
Product Rich Snippets
As you might know, Magento 2 adds microdata (rather than using JSON+LD) to all product pages by default. However, it’s still rather basic (For example, it’s missing ‘availability’, ‘breadcrumb’, ‘organization’, ‘GTIN’, etc.) and has no settings available.
UB Rich Snippets extension enables you to show detailed information related to your products with JSON-LD format (recommended by Google here) on search result pages. You can automatically add tags for product names, product prices, product ratings, product availability, and more.
Once you complete the default configuration, such as Description, Availability, Ratings & Reviews, Condition, Brand, and Manufacturer, you can test structured data at any product page in Google’s Structured Data Testing Tool.
Please keep in mind that adding snippets to your site in the SERPs (Search Engine Organic Result Pages) might take some time as the search bots do not index this information immediately. Besides, as confirmed by Google, rich snippets don’t affect rankings directly, and Google makes determinations on when and how to display the results in the SERPs. However, it’s clear that rich snippets make your product listings more efficient and increase the click-through rates in the majority of cases.
Category Rich Snippets
UB Rich Snippets allows you to activate the structured data (rich snippets) for the category listings.
Google used to support adding average ratings of the products found in a particular category and the minimum starting price to category pages, which helps your potential customers understand your pricing policy and distinguish several categories without opening your store pages. However, that is no longer the case. Google now recommends to provide review and/or rating information about a specific item, not about a category or a list of items. For example, “summer dresses” or “cake recipes” are not specific items.
If enabled, structured data for Magento 2 breadcrumbs -- a readable category path (category names) instead of a direct URL to the product -- will be visible on the search result page.
A clear rich snippet breadcrumb trail is very beneficial as it effectively improves the clarity of search results and leads customers directly to their targeted category.
Most importantly, it also provides a better understanding of the website hierarchy for the search bots.
This feature provides the search engine with better structure information about your company. And most importantly, it gives customers with Business (Merchant) info such as your store name & description, location, opening hours, links to social pages, phones, etc. if they are any available. This helps to increase your company awareness, get a broader recognition, and reach in search results.
Website & Sitelinks search box
The extension provides the ability to include Website information (name and description) into search engine rich snippets & social media shares.
You can also provide the ability to display a handy Search Box scoped to your site right in Google search result snippets. This search box is powered by Google Search. This way, your customers can start looking for desired products on your store right from the search result pages.
UB Rich Snippets allows you to use Open Graph tags to enrich and deliver the highest quality Facebook posts.
Adding Open Graph tags to the store pages will help the Facebook Crawler pick up the right title, description, and the most suitable preview image that gets pulled into Facebook when a URL from your site is shared.
Twitter Cards (coming soon)
If enabled, the Summary Card with a media-rich experience will be visible to those who view your Twitter content instead of the standard Tweet with just your site URL.
This feature allows providing the customers with an additional title, an extra brief description, an image, and Price. It also highlights the site and tweet creator.
UB Rich Snippets extension is packed with the UB Trex Pro theme v1.0.6 by default (which will be released next week). You can go ahead to download it from your profile then. Or you can try UB Rich Snippets on our demo and get the extension from only $99.
